If you plan to do more than hang on wall, you will need to reinforce, retighten, and wrap with your own leather. The leather hide handle wrap will fall apart after some use (no big deal), and the wooden handle underneath is not particularly secure or sturdy, so that too may break after use. Everything came great the handle was a little loose even though its not going to come off, I wish I knew how to tighten it o_0. This sword was awesome while I had it! The blade is made of a sturdy steel, and this thing can take some punishment! It is no doubt the best 30 dolars Iv'e spent on a blade. The blade is made well and has a nice heavy feel to it, the edge is moderatly sharp. If you want really fuctional sword at a good price hear it is. I am also a moderator of a zombie site called WICKEDZOMBIES.COM and let me tell you. Its a work out!!! But it did finely break. I was surprised with how well it could cut through flesh, bone, animals, and even the shell of a turtoise. the sword is perfect. well constructed and real leather, it fits perfect. The sword was way sharp enough right out the box. The sword itself is very sharp and I don't think you would be doing yourself a favor by sharpening it anymore. It is also very sharp the handle is just fine and is sold as a rock unlike some other reviews. For close hand-to-hand combat, the Spartans were equipped with two types of swords, both of which were secondary weapons . Handel was loose and the leather wrapping unrivaled after the first day. It's heavy, sharp, and the metal on the blade is neither too thin nor is it too thick. i have had no major problems with the piece and i look forward to buying from budk again. I give it a four out of five.
oh, and you might want to oil it regularly if you wipe the factory oil off. !theres only two problems that i have(not major though)

A solid 1/2 inch thick carbon steel sword that has zombie and boggy man waiting for the next guy to pick on.
